16_Noun Numeral

The property Noun Numeral has the value "yes" when there is at least one cardinal numeral that can follow the noun it modifies in a neutral context. For the purpose of this property, we exclude split numerals of the type found in Welsh (see example below).

Definition of Cardinal Numeral

English is "no" for the property Noun Numeral since the following order is always ungrammatical:

*men three
(* means ungrammatical)

Icelandic is "yes" for Noun Numeral, since this order occurs in definite noun phrases:

Greiningar.nar þrjár
analyses.the three

Sigurðsson, Halldór Ármann. 2006. The Icelandic Noun Phrase: Central Traits. Arkiv för nordisk filologi 121:193-236.

Icelandic is also "yes" for Numeral Noun:

Þrjár greiningar
three analyses

In other words, Icelandic is "yes" for both the property Noun Numeral and the property Numeral Noun.

Welsh also allows split numeral phrases, which are explicitly excluded from
The property definition above:

tri bachgen ar hugain
3 boy.sg on 20
'23 boys'

Based on such examples, one might be tempted to say that for Welsh the property Numeral Noun has the value "yesv and that the property Noun Numeral also has the value "yes". But since "split" numerals are excluded, Welsh is only classified as having "yes" for the property Numeral Noun.
